Wheras the term “anime” is used in Japan for animated series and films in general, regardless of their origin, outside Japan the word specifically refers to Japanese productions. This medium has been entered by Kirby, too. A Kirby short film as part of a little known educational video for children was already released c. 1995, but it hardly qualifies as an anime. Much better known is the TV series, which was first broadcast in Japan in 2001. The series is not stricly based on its template, but tells an individual story that features many elements from the Kirby universe of the video games. In 2003, a short film was released which is a kind of prototype of the series and was already produced in 2000.
Currently, individual pages on those works are only found at the German version of Kirbytraum.
